Even though grey is one of the most talked about colors in the world of home design and fashion—and Shaw’s 2015 color of the year—people still often overlook grey when painting the interior of their houses. For some, it can be seen as bland or too dark. However, grey is one of the most effective neutral shades you can incorporate into your room design, and many designers outside of Shaw agree. It gives off a sophisticated look that goes with any shade of furniture or accessories. There are also several different types of designs you can use with the versatile color. Connect with nature

For rooms that receive ample amounts of natural lighting due to large windows or sky lights, grey with hints of blue or white is just what the space needs. According to HGTV, the combination of these colors keeps the connection of the room with nature alive.

“Just as you see in nature, a balance between warm and cool colors is important for interiors,” interior designer Adriana Gerbig told HGTV.

Gerbig suggested that if you’re using grey for your bedroom walls, you apply a softer, warmer grey to balance a cooler shade of blue used for bedding. Then add some white throw pillows or other small accessories to emphasize the natural ambiance of the room design.

Complement with warm wood

Better Homes and Gardens magazine said that one of the easiest ways to create an inviting, yet chic dining room is with pebble grey walls that warm up the space. The magazine advised using grey instead of white because, although white is frequently used as a light shade to decorate a home’s interior, it can’t warm up the area as well as grey can. Complement the added warmth with handcrafted hardwood floors and other wooden elements, such as wooden furniture pieces. These will draw out the warmth from the grey, ensuring that the space doesn’t appear dreary.

Temper a busy space
There are often rooms located throughout a home design that appear a little busy or distracting as a result of bold architecture, such as slanted or paneled ceilings in a living room or bedroom. Grey walls are the perfect solution, adding just enough style to the space, while preventing the need for any added designs due to its rich texture. The combination of soft taupe-grey paint and a muted palette will establish a serene space.
